The weather people had been forecasting rain for the Monday this week, then said Monday night. I was pleased it didn't rain during the day on Monday, as I was going out for lunch up to Myer in Perth with the Gozzy ladies that I meet on the second Monday of the month for that purpose - to go to some regular places for lunch.
Then, they said showers on Tuesday, but nothing happened, same forecast for Weds, but nothing, still sunshine in mid 20s with some overcast. They said on the radio that it was raining down Mandurah, so I thought it would hit Gosnells - but nothing happened! Jon Lewis on his midnight show was talking about being careful 'with all this rain around' and I thought - what rain - we haven't had any!
Then, yesterday, Thurs, it came a bit after 12pm. It had been overcast, but still in mid 20s. They had said there would be high winds with a front coming through. It came, with the wind and the rain, just ordinary at first, then a real sweep of wind and rain hit Gosnells!
It' s been the same today, showers on and off with strong winds, bursts of sun and very short fine periods, but our temps have dropped to 18 degs, but today was only 17 degs, and I'm in my fleecy-lined track pants and had to get out a fleecy-lined top today, and put socks on with closed in soft house shoes! I didn't get to go to my mail box at the front entrance 'til 5pm in between the showers - I thought - but it came on as I wa going, and I got wet, as I didn't take my coat or brolly, but it was too windy anyway! Had to take my top off when I got back, and I got my hair really wet, had to dry it with a towel. (I ran all the way down and mostly back again, so was really out of breath when I got back, but soon recovered)
Now, we have storm damage all over the place, with trees down, electricity out (not mine thank goodness!) and trees falling onto roofs and cars! no-one hurt) Mind you, one poor chap yesterday, I think it was, was at his office desk when the window blew in, or something caused it to break, and as well as getting the glass, it caused him to have a heart attack, and he was taken to hospital, but died later! You never can tell! A stone pylon came down on the beach and water up in Perth, snapping the wire, and they are going to put it back, as apparently, it's a bit of a landmark or something.
Going to be a wet week-end with showers, but easing on Sunday, and mainly fine for Monday but temps in high teens. Oh......we had some thunder and lightening as well, but just on and off. Some people have been with out power overnight and food ruined in freezers, but you can claim for it from Syn Energy, as it's called now, but only if you have been without power for 12hrs, then you get $80.
A pensioner called up 6pr, as her food was ruined and her medical alert needed power for some reason, and a lot of other pensioners were in the same boat. People rang up and offered to help this lady out with food.
Lesley and I are going to the Music Hall show on Sunday in Gosnells at the Anglican church at corner of Hicks and Dorothy St, so hope it's not too wet. I go every year (they generally have it twice a year) to the afternoon matinee with afternoon tea served at the tables. There are evening shows with a roast dinner for $25 and the show, but the matinee is $15. It is songs and comedy skits with a comedy/farce play at the end. Done in music hall style with the regular players belonging to the church, and there is a sing-a-long as well with song sheets.
The theme this time is songs from the juke box era from 1945-1965. There is always a theme. Lesley hasn't been for awhile, as she wanted to give it a rest, as the two of us always went. I go on my own when she doesn't go, as it makes a nice Sunday outing, from 1pm-4-30pm, but nice to be with someone, as I have to sit with other people, so it's better if you have someone else with you. Alot of elderly people go, but daughters etc come along too.
Well, that was a digression, but at the moment we are having stormy weather, a big change from the beautiful sunshine, but we so need the rain, as everything was bone dry!
CYA!
