SE working overtime with trees down, even huge trees up rooted, and roofs blown off etc. It said on the news that 17,000 homes were without power. I had two power cuts on Saturday night - it really spoiled my Saturday night regualr viewing on the ABC! (well.....I do have a lot to complain about, don't I - at least my roof wasn't blown off!)
I missed the last 10mns or so of ' New Tricks' and the first 20mns of the first story of 'The Bill' as it goes 'til 10-05pm now with the second story starting at 9-15pm. The power went off the first time at about 8-20pm 'til about 8-50pm.
The power went off again at about 9-50pm, so I missed the last 15mns of the end of the second story of 'The Bill!' Also the whole first hour of the next programme, 'Foyles War' which starts at 10-10pm 'til about 11-40pm, as they've lengthened it to about a 90mn session now, where it used to be an hour before. These are repeats, but it hadn't been on for quite awhile.
The power didn't com on 'til nearly 11-10pm, but I still watched the end of 'Foyles War' and as the end part was dealing with his son and family issues, and not the murder, I have the gist of that part for the next program. It is set in WWII, and he is a quiet detective, with his driver, Samantha, Sam for short, who has taken a shine to his son, who is in the war flying 'planes, and has just been promoted, and is going to be away for awhile, so tearful good-byes were shown.
It's a good British series, done in that soft dull, green look for the era, and some nice British scenery at times. It is repeated the next night, but not 'til 12-30am so doesn't finish 'til 2-15am. I could tape it, but I know enough about it for the next programme with seeing the end.
Very inconvenient though - as I look forward to the three programs on a Saturday, beginning at 7-30pm after having watched 'Funniest Home Video' on C9 at 6-30pm for a laugh! I also had to put my DVD/VCR, microwave, and the two clocks in my bedroom back into working mode again - twice - and having to sit in the silence with candles! I just did my crosswords in my crossword book for a time-filler!
The power went off for about 15mns the next morning at about 10-30am, so - I had to put my clocks etc in all over again for the third time! I have to get the clock radio in my bedroom in sinc with 6pr radio's news, as when I use my alarm which is every night, as I don't want to sleep in, if it's not correct with them, it will come on when the news has begun, so I miss the beginning, as I like to listen to the news whilst dozing, then usually get up. Everytime there's a power cut, it's a nusiance to get it in sinc again if I don't get t right the first time! I just used my mobile 'phone to do the time, as there is only one battery clock in the kitchen.
Very tiresome - good job I know how to do the VCR/DVD clock and microwave one etc! Good job I have gas too, which I expect is why Homeswest uses the two facilities. The only other thing that happened in my garden was that my bird feeder that I still keep anchored on the brick pillar under my back porch, even though I have the other one with the water etc in the shrubbery opposite my sliding door, had disappeared, the fishing line that anchors it to the wire coat hanger, snapped with the wind. Probably had got brittle with the weather, as fishing line is usually strong.
It has dropped down onto one of my small flower pots below - the second time this has happened, before I used to fasten it. I've fastened it back up now, but the seed blows away, as it catches the gusts from the side of the house, but isn't bad in average wind.
We still have some more high winds to come, and rain 'til Thursday, which is going to be fine, and Friday as well, with a return to rain on Sunday. Managed to get washing nearly dry on Saturday, but got last lot a bit damp, so it's all still on my clothes airer in lounge behind settee. Can't grumble really, as we need the rain, and they are predicting a dryer Winter again! Autumn, you may remember in the previous post about the weather, was very dry and sunny.
Hope there's no more power cuts over next few days - those clocks and things are a nusiance!
CYA!
