Yes, it's true! Jeff said last night that he would be making an annoucement, but ddin't say what, or that it was about him. I guessed later that he was
maybe going to say he was leaving, but not to retire.
He announced it after he did the weather, which he does at the end of C7's news. He said he will be there for another month until they find a replacement. He was on the 'phone on 6pr radio this morning for an interview. He said he has given it alot of thought, not just a spur of the moment thing.
He has been on TV, presumably with C7 since 1967! They showed some footage afterwards, when he was sat with Susannah Carr and Rick Ardan at the news desk after the weather. There was black and white footage showing him much younger. I remember him with dark hair, but not as young as they showed him, and his hair was a bit longer at the sides, but we didn't come to WA 'til '79. Some of the people working at C7 said they weren't even born when he began at C7!
He also does the Telethons and the pageants etc, but he's still doing the Telethon this year. Can't remember which month it usually is, or if it's before he leaves, but I daresay he will be asked to do certain things, or be there after he leaves, and probably be on the Telethon panel. I think he must be getting on for 70yrs now, as I think he looked as if he was in his late 20s or early 30s in the footage. I'll miss him! He won't suggest anyone for a replacement, says he's leaving that upto C7.
